Cove poet Polly Clark signed copies of her books Take Me With You and Kiss on Saturday 11 February 2006. Take Me With You was shortlisted for the TS Eliot prize, and both collections earned Poetry Book Society Recommendations.

When local author Pat McIntosh published the second book in her murder mystery series set in mediaeval Glasgow featuring lawyer Gil Cunningham, The Nicholas Feast. Like the first, The Harper’s Quine, it is meticulously researched and highly readable. Pat visited Bookworms on Saturday 5 November 2005 to sign copies of her books – captured in this picture, and again the following year when the fourth book, The Merchant’s Mark appeared.

Two weeks later, on Saturday 19 November 2005, Bute author and former Helensburgh resident Paul J. Ankorne signed copies of his book Mischief in Long Trousers and Forbidden Journey. It recounts his experiences after having grown up in an orphanage, when he finds himself having to make his own way in life. It includes his time with the Rifle Brigade in Kenya and Malaya, his rôle in helping to establish the Outward Bound climbing school on Mount Kilimanjaro, and an overland walking trip from Singapore to India. Illustrated with photographs and maps.

Lomondside author Paul Henke visited Helensburgh on Saturday 28 May 2005 to sign copies of his books at Bookworms. Paul has garnered critical acclaim for his series A Million Tears featuring the Griffiths family from the 1890s to the Second World War: A Million Tears, The Tears of War and Peace, Silent Tears and Tears Until Dawn. He is also the author of the action thrillers featuring Paul Hunter: Débâcle, Havoc, Chaos and Mayhem.

Helensburgh’s Blossom Festival: 23–24 April 2005. Bookworms joined in the celebrations, featuring books on Japan, Japanese culture and by Japanese authors. We produced a leaflet, Notes on Japanese books and culture (requires Acrobat Reader).
